Chicago Arts and Cultural Association Hosts Design Professionals and Educators from China

Fifteen design professionals and educators from different areas in China spent 13-day in New York and Chicago successfully attended “American Art Design Practice Program” offered by Chicago Arts and Cultural Association. This customized program has enriched participants’ skills and experience in design innovation and practices.

The design professionals and educators obtained certificates from School of Art Institute of Chicago and Chicago Arts and Cultural Association upon completion of the program.
The group spent a week studying cutting edge design topics in School of Art Institute of Chicago, the top art and design school around the world. Through the lectures given by SAIC faculties in integrated design practices and living principles, the group discussions, and the field trips to design companies and studios, students addressed various design topics, such as American design and manufacturing, spatial design and sustainability, and green design.

Professors from SAIC School of Architecture, Interior Arch, and Designed Objects were giving lectures and conducting class design projects with program students.
The group also took pre-arranged lecture and site visits in the world-famous architecture and design firm: SOM and Gensler. SOM directors in architecture and interior design departments gave lectures in SOM design process, innovation, and collaboration. SOM directors also took the group to the SOM completed landmark project sites and provided in-depth illustration about design schemes and process. While the visiting design professionals learnt the workflow of SOM projects, they also captured the SOM success secret: details make the excellence.

In Gensler, design director also gave speech about how Gensler achieve goals in well-being design. He focused on energy efficiency, material optimizing, building green China, and design transparency, which arouse participants learning interests and design passions. Director also took participants to visit their workspace and share Gensler practice using real examples.

The program participants were excited to visit Gensler office and took the design lecture.
The group also visited other art, design, and cultural landmarks in Chicago, such as Frank Wright Home and Studio, Willis Tower, Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Merchandise mart, RH furniture, 3 arts and cafe, and factories in Chicago. They took the chicago architecture river cruise to perceive Chicago skyline and modern architecture evolution and watched U.S. famous Blue Man Group Show and Medieval Times performance. The visiting professionals and educators learnt design fabrication, design business, and arts and culture from above activities and accumulated their design experience through different learning ways.

Beautiful Chicago River, Lake of Michigan, and Chicago Architecture

The participant was attentively looking at Paul Gauguin special Exhibition in Art Institute of Chicago.
To accumulate various valuable American design practices and art culture experience, Chicago Arts and Cultural Association also arranged the group to visit various landmarks in New York.
The design professionals and educators visited Parsons School of Design and learnt that humanity and creativity had been playing important roles in encouraging students in their design. The organizer of New York Architecture & Design social group also delivered the lecture about U.S. interior design trends and resources, along with interior design innovation and studio management. The visiting design professionals and educators discussed similarity and differences of interior design between United States and China and learnt a lot from each other. When visiting Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Museum of Modern Art, and Metropolitan Museum of Art, the design professionals and educators learnt the spirit of American dreams and American traditional values here.

Statue of Liberty American, Here we come

The participants are immersed themselves in art exhibitions and treasures in Metropolitan Museum of Art for five hours.

Besides for art and design, the participants also enjoy American steak dining experience which also infuses American baseball sports and New York Yankee team.
Chicago Arts and Cultural Association provided more private in-depth study program and coordinate direct interactions with site staff for participants during the program. The visiting design professionals and educators mentioned that they experienced a different and excellent way to learn profession under Chicago Arts and Cultural Association. The journey in the United States is fulfilled with art pieces, inspirations, and opportunities for professional development. All participants greatly appreciate all detailed service and information Chicago Arts and Cultural Association have provided. Chicago Arts and Cultural Association aims to facilitate professional and educational opportunities in visual and performing arts. The Association has build a strong community in art and would help the program participants to accumulate professional and culturally enriching experiences in the United States.
